Croatia 8th - 13th April
8th April, Milano Malpensa: our experience begins!!! We are exited
We're just arrived at the airport
We are at the airport, waiting for our flight to take off, and talking about the project and our new adventure!
Our flight is taking off: we see the Alps from above, and it's a wonderful sight!
We land in Frankfurt
We are in Split now!!!
The walls of Diocleziano's Palace in Split
Inside the walls
The Peristyle
Walking through the streets of the ancient city
9th April: Split and Hvar
This morning we enter Diocleziano's palace through the Silver Gate
During the 7th Century the Mausoleum where Diocleziano wanted to be buried was transformed in a Cathedral. The Dome lost its mosaics and a bell tower was built near the entrance of the Mausoleum
A dragon on the bell tower
A model of Split helps us to understand how the city changed through the years
Our guide explains us that Diocleziano controlled even Egypt, from where he took 12 statues representing the Sphinx: this one was beheaded when Christians arrived in Split ... we found the head of a Sphnix inserted into a wall of the city ...
Our guide leaves us at the Golden gate, near the statue of Grgur Ninski
We are ready to take the catamaran
We're travelling to Hvar by catamaran
We arrive at Hvar and meet our partners!
9th April, 7 30 pm: we participate in the welcome event in the loggia of the City
The headmistress of Hvar Osnovna Skola welcomes us
The Mayor of the City dances a traditional dance for us
Traditional dance and Klapa music
10th April: first day of activities
We walk along the docks and we finally reach the school: this is the view from the window
All the delegations present their Countries and cultures
10th April: first activity, lace making
We learn how to make a lace
In the afternoon we visited Grad Hvar
Firstly we hadve the possibility to enter the local Theatre, which will officially reopen in May
After that we visit the Benedectine Monastery, where a community of six nuns lives
They are specilized in lace making. . .
. . . their work is amazing!
Visiting the city we discover that it has been ruled by the Republic of Venice for many years and that's why many words of the local dialect are so similar to Italian, as the word "piazza"
We are on our way back to school: what a beautiful landscape!!!
And this is what the view from the computer lab looks like today
We finally play a game and make a consideration about our day
11th April: first activity, working with spices and essences
We now take part in a workshop and use mediterranean spices to produce different kinds of oils or salt
Then we play a game: we have to recognize spices or essences: origan, rosemary, immortelle, sage and lavander
decorating a cookie
we are decorating gingerbread cookies, expressing our creativity
This has been judged as one of the best decoration of all
And Davide decides to eat his own masterpiece ;)
Netting the fish
We are waiting for the boat that will take us to Palmizana but we don't like being alone and we ask our new Spanish friends to join us!
We are in the boat now, waiting to leave
We are now trying to catch fishes but they prefer swimming in the water of the Adriatic Sea!!!
While in Palmizana little island we record a very short video to send to our mates in Italy: it will be shot this night during "Maino's got talent" final show! Enjoy the video!
Olive oil cream
Producing a cream is so simple: just take wax and extra vergin oil, make them melt together and mix them
Here we are: this is the perfect cream to soften and protect our skin!
Canva
We learn how to use Canva to produce a leaflet about the Mediterranean Diet but it has been a long day and we need a rest...
See you tomorrow in beautiful Hvar
13th April: a visit of the island
We climb up the hill of Grad Hvar to enjoy the beautiful view from the Spanish fortress
Velo Grabljie
Velo means "big": we are in Big Grabljie, a village where only ten people still leave. In the past people modified the territory and built drystone walls to create terraces to cultivate. Unexpectedly lavander grew here and became one of the most important products of the island. Three big fires destroyed crops over the past few years
Stari Grad Plain and Stari Grad
In Stari Grad Plain we visit this ancient bulding, which can either date back to 2,400 or 500 years ago: the construction tecnique has never changed along that long period, so it's difficul for us to know!
In Stari Grad Plain we also visit an ancient villa rustica, part of the Unesco Heritage. Here Romans cultivated olive trees and produced olive oil
"Stari Grad" means "Old Town". Here we visit the villa of one of the most important Renaissance poet in Croatia: Petar Hektorovic
In the garden of the villa we enjoy the show by young actors ... it is about the hard life of fishermen
We meet Petar
Since we can't take part in the procession "Follow the Cross" next week, we participate in a smaller one
A consideration about the day and the farewell party: everyone of us receives the certificate of attendance and some presents
Nada, the headmistress
Helga, the project founder and manager
Nataljia
Zrinka, our guide in Hvar
14th April: the last goodbye
We are still in Split, and visit the park of the city
we have fun taking pictures of ourselves
Climbing up the hill we find an agave plant. It is cutted and we study its threads
We are at the end of our experience
...
the world is ours to conquer ;)
We are on the plane, waiting to take off ... see you in Cassano Magnago!!!
When students are back home realize a short video with pictures shot during the mobility: please enjoy
