Activities & recreation center (Arc)
The ARC has a variety of recreational activities, some of which include the ARC Fitness Center, which is located on the lower level of the ARC building, where students are able to utilize a variety of training equipment, including cardiovascular (treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and rowing machines), strength (leg press, leg extension, chest press, lat pullwodn, and various cable machines), free weights (dumbbells, barbells, and squat racks), as well as a studio space for students to workout when classes are not in session (to check out their classes, visit ). Group fitness programs and outdoor wellness programs are also available to students. Group fitness programs are free stuctured workouts led by an instruction in a dedicated studion space (e.g., yoga, spin [cycling], and various types of high-intensity interval training [HIIT] or strength-focused classes). Outdoor wellness programs are focused on outdoor recreation accessible to all students, regardless of their experience or financial situation, where students go through guided outdoor trips and events (e.g., day hikes, camping trips, backpacking, snoshoeing, and indoor rock climbing sessions at local gyms). Trips can range from a few hours to an entire weekend. Most trips are either free or heavily subsidized, meaning the cost is usually very low. If you are interested in signing up for their programs, check out the ARC Website! All currently enrolled students have access to the facilitites provided by the ARC at no additional cost, you just need to present your Husky Card (if you do not have your husky card yet, drop by the lower level of the Summit Hall with your UW Student ID number and a valid government-issued ID and you will instantly get your card, or get it by mail by submitting a plain background, no filter photo online through the Husky Card Photo Upload) or a state-issued ID. The ARC also has the Nest Gear Shop where you can rent a wide variety of outdoor equipment for free (e.g., sleeping bags, tents, hiking boots, and backpacks). The Outdoor Resources page provides a lot of useful tips and information if you are planning on doing outdoor adventures. The ARC Lower Level houses other resources besides the gym and Nest Gear Shop, it also contains locker rooms, restrooms and showers, and vending machines that provide snacks and drinks. Behind the ARC building students can find the Sports & Recreation Complex, which is a large outdoor facility designed for both organized sports and casual drop-in rectreation. It contains a large multi-purpose artificial turf field marked for sports like soccer and ultimate frisbee. It also contains two synthetic turf tennis courts, one basketball court, and one sand volleyball court. The courts and field are equipped with lighting for evening use! The courts and field are available on a first-come, first-served basis whenever they are not already reserved for an intramural game, practice, or other scheduled events. The ARC also offers Intramural Activities, which range from sports (e.g., flag football, soccer, basketball, ultimate fresbee, sand volleyball, softball, wiffleball, futsal, trench dodgeball, tennis, pickleball, badminton, table tennis), card and board games (e.g., Settlers of Catan, Texas Hold'em Poker), and alternative gaming (e.g., Smash Bros Ultimate, League of Legens, Valorant, Rocket League) participants of all skill levels, where the focus is to have fun, and it is free of charge!
