Overview
The University provides a wide range of resources to help students with their academic success. This includes the Office of Student Academic Success, the Campus Library, the Information Technology (IT) department, and the Academic Advising Office.
The Office of Student Academic Success is the one in charge of the Writting & Communications Center (WaCC)--which helps students improve their writting skills-- the Quantitative Skills Center (QSC)--which helps students improve their quantitative skills--and the Academic Success Coaching (ASC)--which helps students develop and achieve short and long term goals.
The Campus Library provides resources that are directed towards research, meaning that they provide many databases, tech, and media that is utilized by students to learn more about a topic. Additionally, they provide Librarians that are able to help you if you are feeling stuck on your research journey!
The IT department is the one that provides the main tech resources that all students require (e.g., laptops & hot spots), as well as a lengthy list of tutorials on a wide range of technological topics (e.g., how to utilize Canvas), a varied list of software free for students to download, and even an on-campus and a virtual lab!
The Academic Advising Office is there to assist Undergraduate students navigate their academic journey, and they are specifically focused on degree planning, course selection, major exploration, and career and graduate school planning. If you are a graduate student, take a look at the Academic Adivising Office source in our website for steps on how to obtain advising.
Tips
We encourage that you to utilize all of these resources (at least once). They all provide helpful assistance to students that will either provide you with the necessary resources to produce work, or it will help you polish it!
The Writting & Communications Center (WaCC), Quantitative Skills Center (QSC), and Academic Success Coaching (ASC) all share the same location (UW2-030) but they all have different phone numbers
For the Campus Library, we encourage that you take advantage of the study areas throughout all the building!
For the IT department, we encourage that you check out a hot spot (they come in handy when you're in a location without WiFi and you're in need of it)
For the Academic Advising Office, it is required that students meet with an advisor at least once to be able to graduate. Therefore we recommend that you schedule an appointment with them early on to help you develop an academic plan
If you are planning or considering on applying for Graduate school, the UW provides the Undocumented Students & Graduate School page, which provides guidelines on how to apply for UW Graduate schools as an Undocu student

Tutoring
What is it?
The QSC provides free peer tutoring in most of the first-level and upper-division courses in Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Statistics. Their model focuses on asking a lot of questions, working through examples, and model the problem solving process to make sure students understand the concept of their coursework.
How can I access it?
The QSC provides online drop-ins via Zoom, as well as in-person drop-ins. They provide a schedule based on the specific courses for both online and in-person:
What should I know before attending?
Step 1: The QSC requires that students make sure they have been (1) going to their class, (2) read the assigned texts, and (3) have tried out the problems. That way it prepares you to discuss concepts with the peer tutor and explain which specific section you would like assistance on
Step 2: When you arrive you must sign in at the Kiosk Computer that is next to the Front Desk. After you have signed in you can sit down on the group tables, the tables for two, the computer stations, or the quiet room
Step 3: When you are ready for a tutor's help, submit a "Request Help" request on the tablets connected to the tables. You can do this by taking a look at the main queue page, selecting "Request Help," select the subject in which you would like help with, select the sub-subject and/or desired tutor, and click enter. This will place you on the queue, and once the next tutor is available (or the tutor you selected is available) they will come to the table from which you requested help from
You can check your status on the queue on the main page. If you have any questions about the electronic queue you can reach out to the Front Desk Coordinator for assistance
Step 4: Once the tutor has assisted you with your conceptual question, the tutor will let you work independently, until the next time you are in the queue (which requires you to redo step 3)
