Overview
UW Bothell offers a multi-layered approach to student well-being, connecting students with both on campus resources and a broader healthcare network. The Health & Wellness Resource Center (HaWRC) serves as the central hub for student support, providing a wide array of wellness programs, peer education, and referrals for basic needs. For mental health, the UW Bothell Counseling Center offers free, confidential, short-term counseling services.
While UWB does not have a medical clinic, students are connected to the larger UW Medicine system and other community providers for physical health needs. This collaborative approach ensures that students can access a wide range of services, from mental health support and wellness education to connections with medical care when needed.
Below you will find a range of resources for supporting your health and wellbeing. For most, we have drawn language directly from the relevant UW office or resource.
Tips
We recommend you view the resources in this section before an emergency arises. This way you will be equipped with the knowledge you need if something does happen
When it comes to establishing care with a clinic, it is best you schedule with them as soon as possible, because clinics--especially the ones that serve underrepresented communities--are often booked out for many months
We recommend you also view the Healthcare section under the "Outside Resources," as clinics like Sea Mar are more widely available throughout Washington state (in comparison to UW Medicine, which is only established in the Seattle area)
The Health & Wellness Resource Center (HaWRC)
While the HaWRC does not have physicians or registered nurses working at their office to provide medical care or services, they can assist you with a referral to appropriate off-campus wellness resources if needed. They provide a Health Education Program, a Basic Needs Program to help students find and navigate resources (e.g., public benefits enrollment), and a Resource Library.

Health Education Program
What is it?
The HaWRC offers a variety of Health Education Programs focused on a holistic approach to student well-being. These programs are designed to be engaging, informative, and accessible. The core of their health education is through their Health Educators Reaching Out (HEROs) program. HEROs are peer health educators who are certified and trained to conduct health promotion and prevention programming. Their health education programs often include Interactive Workshops and Informative Events & Activities.
What are the Interactive Workshops about?
The Interactive Workshops are provided through the HEROs team, which facilitates workshops on a range of wellness topics. These can include stress management, mental health, sexual health, and substance use prevention.
What are the Informative Events and Activities about?
HaWRC organizes various campus events aimed at improving overall wellness. These events are often more relaxed and engaging, and have included activities like:
Therapy dog visits
Arts and crafts sessions
Chair massages
Healthy snacks and drinks
Opportunities to win prizes
What immediate health & wellness resources does the HaWRC provide?
The HaWRC office provides a range of free wellness supplies for students, including sexual health supplies a variety of condoms, lubricant, internal condoms, dental dams, pregnancy tests, and emergency contraceptives, menstrual products, and Narcan overdose treatment. This is a form of passive health education, ensuring students have access to the tools they need to make informed health decisions.

Basic Needs Program
What is it?
The Basic Needs Program helps students obtain support in navigating life, work, and college. They do this by connecting students with on-campus and community resources with the help of a Navigator. They are continuously working to build their network of on-campus and community resources for students, so that they can connect you with the resources that are most helpful. This can include helping determine if you may be eligible for public benefits programs like SNAP grocery assistance, or making sure that you know about the on-campus food pantries. They can also help you apply for emergency funding sources or connect you with their partners at the United Way Benefits Hub program for housing navigation.
How can I schedule an appointment?
To have a meeting with a Navigator they require students to book an in-person or remote appointment.

Resource Library
What is it?
The Resource Library is a collection of curated information, guides, and contact details for both on-campus and community resources. It is not a traditional library with books, but rather a "library" of information and connections. The goal of the resource library is to be a central point of information for students who are looking for help with various aspects of their well-being, especially when HaWRC itself cannot provide the service directly.
What does it offer?
The resources you can find in this library typically cover a wide range of wellness dimensions, including:
Information on financial coaching, public benefits enrollment (like food stamps), and emergency funding. The HaWRC works closely with partners like the United Way Benefits Hub to provide these connections.
Guides to finding food banks, mobile pantries (like the Hopelink Mobile Market that visits campus), and emergency housing resources in the surrounding area. It also has information on the on-campus Husky Pantry.
Contact information and descriptions of services provided by the UW Bothell Counseling Center, the Student Care & Consultation (CARE) Team, and other mental health resources in the community.
Referrals to local urgent care clinics, information on where to get free or low-cost STD testing, and details on where to find wellness supplies on campus.
Information on the free sexual health supplies available at the HaWRC, such as condoms and emergency contraceptives.

Intake Assessment
What is it?
Intake assessments are the first step to determine what is the best fit for your needs (every student wanting to utilize the counseling services must take an intake assessment first)
What can I expect from the initial assessment?
You will meet in-person with a clinician for 45 min. They will ask about your life, listen to your needs, and help you come up with your next steps. These steps may be ongoing services at the Counseling Center or referrals to more specialized care.
How can I access it?
If you would like to schedule an intake assessment you can call, email them, or visit their office. You will be asked to arrive 30 min prior to your first appointment in order to complete paperwork (regarding treatment consent, demographic information, and questions bout how you are doing in various areas of your life).

Individual Counceling
What is it?
A short-term, one-on-one sessions with a licensed professional to discuss concerns such as anxiety, stress, depression, life transition, and relationship issues. They are weekly or biweekly 45-min sessions.
What do the counselors actually do?
The clinician will listen closely to understand your experience and find ways to assist you in moving towards your goals. This is a personalized experience, so how it helps differs from person to person. It will often involve things such as getting a different perspective on your experiences, exploring and discovering things about yourself, making changes in unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving, processing difficult experiences, and learning healthy coping tools.
What if I need more than just a brief session?
The Counseling Center offers brief therapy and most students resolve their concerns in four sessions or less. If you and your clinician decide that you need more sessions, your clinician will try to find a group therapy option that fits or refer you to case management services to help you find longer term care off campus.

Group Therapy
What is it?
A weekly session that bring together students with shared experiences to develop skills, gain peer support, and feel less alone int heir struggles. Groups typically have 6-8 students, meet for 80-min weekly in-person, and they are facilitated by a licensed mental health professional. Most groups start near the beginning of the quarter, so if a group has already started, ask to be placed on a group interest list for next quarter.
How many types of groups are there?
There are a total of 3 groups: Skills, Support, & Process.
Skills groups are experiential opportunities to develop mental health-related skills such as mindfulness and emotional regulation. They are highly structured and often build on past week’s content.
Support groups bring together people with a shared experience (e.g., eating disorders, loss of a loved one) to normalize and validate those experiences to find self-acceptance.
Process groups are unstructured and the focus is on the interactions of group members to increase self-awareness and learn how you relate to others and how others relate to you.
How can I access it?
After having your Intake Assessment, you can either schedule the group session (via email, phone, or going into the office) or your clinician will schedule it for you. If needed, you will be prepped for the group (when group is the recommended treatment, individual sessions may be used to get you ready for group rather than starting the treatment in an individual setting). You will then meet with the group faciliatator to learn more about the group, and then you will attend the group session.

What are they?
They are single-session or short-series events focused on specific topics like procrastination, stress management, or making friends. They are workshops focused on specific mental health topics. These are typically 45-minute in-person meetings facilitated by licensed clinicians.
What do they offer?
While the specific workshop topics may change from quarter to quarter, they are designed to provide a supportive environment for personal growth and skill development. For example, past offerings have included a "Mindful Monday" workshop where different mindful exercises were used to help students improve their effectiveness at managing thoughts, feelings and relationships. You can take a look at the workshops available in their Group Therapy & Workshops page.
How can I access them?
These workshops are generally "drop-in," meaning you can show up without a prior appointment, however, we encourage you get in contact with their office to find out more about which workshops are offered, when, and how you can join!

It offers different types of support, including: Real-time support, which is immediate, single-session help for urgent concerns, and Short-term support, which are scheduled sessions with a dedicated counselor via phone or video. Additionally, their counselors are experienced in working with students from diverse backgrounds and are available to speak a variety of languages.
