They checked out the Computer Programming Club and found it was dominated by boys who already knew how to club.

GHS students chosen by Verizon as Best in Nation for app designGREENWICH — Greenwich High club Girls Who Code was named “Best in Nation” winners in the fifth annual Verizon Innovation Learning app challenge on Wednesday for their mobile app concept Under My Wing. Girls Who Code was selected by a panel of education and industry experts as a winner of one of eight Best in Nation Awards. The award includes $15,000 for Greenwich High School and the opportunity to work with MIT Media Lab experts to bring their app idea to life.

The team will receive a $5,000 award from Verizon for their school and tablets for each student team member. The team is now eligible to win one of eight Best In Nation awards, selected by a panel of education and industry experts, and the Fan Favorite Award, determined by public voting.

GHS team state winners of Verizon challenge for app conceptGREENWICH — A team of students from Greenwich High club Girls Who Code were named Best in State winners in the fifth annual Verizon Innovative Learning app challenge this week. The seven members of the Girls Who Code team created a video and wrote essays explaining their concept for Under My Wing as part of their application for the Verizon Innovation Learning app challenge. The team is now eligible to win one of eight Best In Nation awards, selected by a panel of education and industry experts, and the Fan Favorite Award, determined by public voting, to earn an additional $15,000 for Greenwich High School and the opportunity to work with MIT Media Lab experts to bring their app idea to life.
