Call of Duty: Black Ops II (2012) is a first-person shooter video game that takes place in the late 1980s and 2025. The game's campaign follows the story of Alex Mason and his son David, also known as "Section", as they pursue Raul Menendez, a Nicaraguan arms dealer and terrorist. The story is told through a non-linear narrative that connects events in both time periods:
1980s
The player switches between controlling Alex Mason and Frank Woods, two characters from the previous game, Black Ops. In this time period, Menendez kidnaps David.
2025
The player takes on the role of David, a US Navy Seal Commander, who must stop Menendez from using the US drone fleet to attack cities around the world. Menendez has gained control of the drones and is trying to launch a cyber attack using unmanned weaponry. David and his team must capture Menendez and uncover his plans.
Some say the game has sharp controls, an evolving gameplay, and compelling writing. Others say the campaign is ambitious but falls short of the original, but that the Zombies mode is a lot of fun.
