Imagine a world where you can only move forward, backward, left, or right - no up or down. That's what it would be like to live in two dimensions. Everything around you would be flat, like living on the surface of a piece of paper. You'd only see edges and lines, never any depth.Sep 16, 2015
A two-dimensional (2D) world is a mathematical space with two dimensions, where points can move in two independent directions or be described with two coordinates. These spaces are also known as surfaces or planes.
In a 2D world, a person's view would be limited to left and right, and they could only move forward, backward, left, and right. For example, a room might have no windows, just walls that block movement. A 2D creature would have a flat line of vision, and objects that are further away would appear dimmer. They could also use touch to help distinguish shapes, such as noticing that the corner of a safe is brighter in the middle and gets darker towards the edges.
Some say that life could exist in a 2D universe. For example, organisms would need to be able to consume and process energy, but they couldn't have a digestive tract that runs through their body like humans do, as this would cut them in half. Instead, they could consume food and release waste from the same orifice. They would also need to have a larger surface area for heat dissipation, so they might have folds like a radiator to help with this.
