This page introduces the tutors at Umlaut, who are especially important for freshmen at the beginning of their studies!
The most important task of a tutor is to help new freshmen start their studies and act as a reliable support person throughout the first academic year. Tutoring aims to create a sense of community among freshmen, so that no one is left alone and everyone can find something to do at the association's events!
Moin! I’m Erin, a second-year student. Starting university was nerve-wracking, and I was afraid I wouldn’t find my place in such a completely new environment. Back when I was applying, I thought I’d end up studying psychology—even after I was accepted into the Bachelor’s Programme in Languages. At that point, my attitude was still very much "let's see how it goes." However, right from orientation week onwards, I realized this was a field I really enjoyed—and I still feel that way. I love student events and try to attend them as often as possible; after all, university is about more than just the mandatory coursework—it’s about the experiences, too! The best thing about studying languages is the wide range of study options available; for German specifically, I’ve particularly enjoyed the courses in phonetics and translation so far.
