RT-130 FIRE REFRESHER INFORMATION
The intent of RT-130, Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher (WFSTAR) is to focus line-going personnel on operations and decision-making issues related to fireline safety.
RT-130 is an instructor-led course and cannot be completed through independent study. Hours of attendance requirements for RT-130 are determined by each agency. There are no time requirements in the Forest Service; the length of each session will be determined by the instructor. You must be in attendance for the full session and your name must be on the sign in sheet to receive credit.
RT-130 is only required for designated positions. A full list of designated positions is available at https://www.nwcg.gov/publications/training-courses/rt-130.
Firefighters who receive initial firefighter training (S-130) are not required to take RT-130 in the same calendar year. RT-130 is valid for 13 months.
WORK CAPACITY TEST INFORMATION
The Forest Service administers the Work Capacity Test for current or prospective employees to determine physical fitness for wildland firefighting activities. Requirements for physical fitness are identified as arduous, moderate, light, and none required.
All personnel with a fitness level requirement of light, moderate, or arduous must complete medical screening and be determined to be medically qualified by the agency reviewing medical officer prior to taking any level of the Work Capacity Test.
Personnel taking the Work Capacity Test will only complete the level of testing required by the highest fitness level identified for a position on their Incident Qualification Card. To further clarify, employees shall not take the Work Capacity Test unless they have an incident qualification that requires it, and only at the fitness level required by that position. Reference position fitness requirements in Chapter 2 of the Forest Service Fire and Aviation Qualification Guide (FSFAQG) or in the Federal Wildland Fire Qualifications Supplement (Federal Supplement).
The Work Capacity Test is valid for 13 months.
