Position Task Book (PTB) policy requirements can be found in Chapter 2 of the Forest Service Fire and Aviation Qualifications Guide and in the About Position Task Books section of NWCG PMS 310-1.
REQUESTING A TASK BOOK
Position Task Book initiation requests must be formally submitted on a "Position Task Book Request Form". After required approvals are received, forms must be routed to the Forest Training Officer, or delegated alternate Primary Account Manager, for initiation.
Requesting a New or Reissued Task Book:
Download and complete a "Position Task Book Request Form" (see Documents below).
Route the completed form to your Unit Training Officer for processing.
All Task Book Request Forms must be received by the Forest Training Officer on or by the following dates:
Permanent/Permanent Seasonal Employees: MAY 15th, annually.
Temporary Employees: JUNE 15th, annually.
IMPORTANT: Forms received outside of the stated timelines will not be processed unless there is a critical need (position continuously difficult to fill) or extenuating circumstances (beyond the employee’s control that could not have been foreseen and acted upon or to which would have a significant negative affect on employee) as identified by the Unit FQRC member and in concurrence with the Forest Fire Staff Officer.
COMPLETED TASK BOOK
Employees are responsible for their initiated Task Books and should reference the Task Book for completion instructions. Completed Task Books and original supporting documentation must be routed to the Unit Training Officer, District FMO, or Airbase Program Manager, as appropriate, to initiate the review and certification process. If the Task Book is incomplete or needs further evaluation, it will be returned to the employee with documented recommendations and corrective actions.
