Finding references
I gathered reference to define what type of industrial zone I would make.
Analyzing these zones inspires me level design ideas.
Looking how Fortnite do these zones allows me to understand how to use their assets
Iteration on the layout
I started by drawing the overall shape of the level.
Since the first was not convincing me at all, I did a second iteration.
Once done, I did a located moodboard to express a clear idea of the level
Finally, I drew the plan of the level.
Phases of Blockout
Greyblock pass
This is the early state of the blockout. I quickly iterate on the size of each part.
The tough part was to share the claustrophobic feeling. It requires me to beak the basic metrics of Fortnite. The minimum metrics was to high to allows this feeling.
Final pass
This is the final state of the blockout.
The addition of pipe height and roof to the bridge allow more diverse mouvement options such as walking on beams or pipes. I assume these options as they appear along the dressing of the level.
Publishing the map
I used Photoshop to make all marketing assets for the island (miniature, background).
I needed to complete the International Age Rating Coalition IARC survey to get a classification for this map. It requires to be prudent because a bad answer could deny the publishing of the map.
Finally, I wrote description teasing the map and some tips for the loading screen.
