Even after the Zamorin was reduced to a powerless pensioner, the East India Company allowed his faithful administrator, Ullanat Panicker to continue to be its representative for collecting tax from the regions already entrusted to them by the Zamorin. The contents of an agreement dated 8^th January 1797 (28^th Dhanu 972 of Kollam era) signed by Ullanat Ikkanta Panicker Karyakkar (8) to continue to collect tax for the East India Company from the three taluks of Chavakkad, Naduvattam and Nedunganad and remit it periodically at the Company’s treasury is given in the book “A Collection of Treaties, Engagements and other papers of importance” by W. The province of Malabar was a part of Bombay Presidency until June 1800. On July 1, 1800, East India Company did some realignment in their administrative strategies and for better management, Malabar was transferred to the Madras Presidency.

By 1857 the East India Company was abolished and all of its administrative and taxing powers, along with its possessions and armed forces, were taken over by the Crown in 1858 by passing the Government of India Act at the Parliament of United Kingdom. This was the start of the British Raj, a period of direct British colonial rule over India. With that, the agreement entered between Ullanat Panicker and the East India Company also got annulled.

In spite of having historical records stating that the Ullanat Panickers were shouldering the responsibility of administration and collection of tax from such wide expanse of land known as Nedunagnad and Naduvattom consisting of many large and important towns and centers for about 90 long years - from AD 1763 till the end of Company rule, it is very unfortunate that today we possess no records whatsoever at the family house or the Kalam houses that would throw more light on the methodology followed to carry out this laborious task, about the places that were used for stay, etc.
