One of my passions is the game of basketball. At my school I wondered why we had nothing to do during lunch. Students would sit in the halls after lunch and we were not allowed to play basketball in the gymnasium because there was no adults watching us.
After thinking about this for quite some time I decided I would build a 3/4 court basketball court on my schools property. I did all of the planning, preparation, organzing, leading, and fundraising for this project and was very motivated to construct a quality court. I wrote a grant ($3,500) to purchase two basketball hoops, raised additional money from friends and family, and did some additional site work to reduce costs. I rasied over $12,000 to construct a beatiful court. Next step was building the court and I prepared grounds, cleared trees, leveled dirt, laid rock and contracted Poe Asphalt to make a black top asphalt surface. At the end of the project I learned project management and helped my school and community with a local place to play basketball!
This court gets lots of kids and students during sporting events at the high school along with students at lunch playing on it. Below are a few pictures from start to finish of construction.
