OLIVER THATCHER

University President

About Oliver Thatcher:

Oliver Thacher was born in Accra Ghana, joining the national hackey sack team at age 17, he eventually moved to the United States to attend Stanfurd University. Graduating in 2002 with a degree in Education and Business Management, Oliver became the President of NorthSouthern University until joining UC Novato as President in 2019. Oliver enjoys spending time with his wife, Karen, and his 3 children at their home in Novato. Oliver loves spending time with students, and frequently joins tour groups on campus.

Andrew Nickels

Dean of Students

About Andrew:

Andrew Nickels has been the Dean of Students for UC NOVATO for many years (starting in 1995). Andrew previously was the president of the University of The Eastern Arctic, and was a civil rights leader in the fight for animal humanism. Andrew lives in Novato and enjoys hiking as well as a great game of chess.

Marty Smith

Head of Dining and Housing

About Marty:

Marty Smith started his career in healthcare services for the NIH of the United Kingdom, serving as vice chairman to hospital conditional reports and improvements. When Marty arrived in Novato, he worked on improving the hotels and hospitality industry in the town, before joining the college in 2018. Marty has made vast improvements to the well being of student life, with the addition of 3 new dorm building projects since his hiring.

Samuel Maxwells

About Samuel:

Samuel Maxwells grew up in Novato, working for 45 years as a farmer in Northern Marin County. After graduating from UC Davis, with a degree in Human Relations, Samuel was hired at UC Novato as the Head of Admissions and Student Outreach, helping boost our salamander family by 2,000+ each year!
