Must be enrolled in PSY192: Internship In Psychology through the Fall and Spring semester. (4 units per sem)
Enrollment is through UC Merced's registration office -- enrollment code will be sent out to students who are accepted into the program.
Students will meet once a week to discuss experiences, readings, and challenges via Zoom.
Meeting time is based on the avaibility of students and professors.
Weekly readings are assigned and based on a clinical topic, followed by weekly quizzes.
Students are expected to write a paper at the end of each semester about their internship experiences and growth.
This is an unpaid internship.
Students are expected to work a maximum of 12 hours weekly--11 hours on-site and 1 hour of class time--throughout the Fall and Spring semester (excluding holidays).
Coordination with these hours are adjusted with the BHRS Program Coordinator.
The MIP Application typically opens in early March and is expected to close early April.
If available, please access it here.
Applicants are expected to hear back from the BHRS Program Manager in late May to mid June if moved onto the interviewing process.
Email notifications of acceptance will be sent out shortly after.
MIP Interns shadow behavioral health professions, learn therapeutic practices and techniques, engage with clients, attend virtual and live trainings, participate in volunteer activities, and more.
Each task is varied through the available BHRS departments, so each intern can expect something different from one another.
The application process for MIP is akin to one for a job.
The application hosts questions that ask about your personal motivations, past experiences, skills, and unofficial transcripts (optional CV/Resume).
MIP professors will select 12-24 applicants to move onto the interviewing process with a small panel of BHRS Administrative Staff.
Finally, the staff will offer a small number of students the opportunity to be interns at BHRS for the upcoming school year.
Unfortunately, MIP is currently unable to provide financial compensation.
This is an unpaid internship--compensation is provided in the form of 4 units per semester.
Behavioral health is an umbrella term that can be used--mental health services in tandem with substance abuse services fall under behavioral health.
Behavioral health focuses on the entire individual (i.e mental health issues that can cause substance abuse).
