Before you request a safety inspection from EH&S, we ask that your faculty advisor conduct an initial review of your space. Here is a checklist for a faculty to use when they are conducting their walk-through.
UCLA’s office of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) performs annual safety inspections of all student organization space where design work involving tools, equipment that pose potential hazards, and chemicals occurs. These inspections will take place through the Fall quarter. Each inspection takes approximately one hour, and any assigned action items should be completed within 30 days. These inspections focus on:
Required safety documentation and access controls
Policies
Facility safety
Electrical safety
Fire/emergency safety and preparedness
Chemical hygiene
Machinery and equipment safety and controls
Applicable high risk operations
Training
If you are an organization that has activities involving tools, equipment that could harm someone if inappropriately used or in an accident; or are using or storing chemicals, please contact EH&S to schedule your inspection. Your faculty advisor should attend the inspection.
These organizations include; but are not limited to: AIAA, AIChE, AISES Rocketeers, ASCE, ASME, BMES, Bruin Home Solutions, BruinRacing, CalGeo, Design Create Solar, EERI, IEEE, MRS, REA, and any other organization that occupies space in the School of Engineering and engages the aforementioned activities.
