Leadership (2026-27)
In our club, we like to have fun, so we style our leadership as "Ministers," who make up a "ministry" with the Prime Minister at the head. To avoid sounding too British, we break from some of the naming conventions of the Westminster system. The "Chancellor of the Exchequer" becomes the "Minister of the Treasury" and the "government/cabinet" becomes the "ministry."
Despite what the naming implies, each minister is still independently elected to their position like officers in any other RSO.
Prime Minister - /tsvi/
AKA - Zvi G
Zvi Gomez is a second-year UChiConlangs member, who studies linguistics and public policy at UChicago on the side. I became enamored with conlanging after watching an Artifexian video in like 2018, and have been hooked ever since. I have 3 conlanging projects and hope to one day have a website of my own. UChiConlangs is by far my favorite part of the week, and I hope that everyone who comes, whether for the first time or as a regular, can feel the same way.
Minister of Linguistics - /ɑɹiə/
AKA - aria
Aria Ullman is a second-year undergraduate studying Linguistics and Classics. She enjoys developing and speaking the UChiConPidgin (Pigi/Piji) and is working towards learning Toki Pona. In a prime example of nominative determinism, Aria loves to sing and is involved in a variety of musical ensembles on campus. She also enjoys drawing, photography, and tending to her ever-growing collection of houseplants.
Minister of the Treasury - /timoʊ/
AKA - Unna
Timo Kiep is an upperclassman at UChicago and is greatly interested in linguistics, particularly sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, phonetics, and phonology. They stumbled into conlanging after an 8th grade art project. Although they've never finished one, their second oldest, well-tinkered with, and most beloved (for the phonesthetic) is Sað. Timo also dabbles in playing with words, journaling, history, and philosophy.
Minister of Outreach - /kɹɪsti/
AKA - cae
Christie Wang is a second year who majors in Linguistics and Cognitive Science. They are currently most interested in syntax and sociolinguistics, though open to anything and everything. They discovered conlanging at some indeterminate time in the past, perhaps by reinventing the wheel and then proceeded to think very hard and have no results (as is the UChicago way). They also enjoy reading, learning, and crochet.
Minister of Communications - /andɾes/
AKA - tzelan
Andrés Aikomus Tevalan is a second year undergraduate student who is also a proud member of the UChiconlangs Society. He is majoring in Linguistics and Data Science, with language-related interests in sociolinguistics, prestige, shifts, and language ideology. His first encounter with conlanging was stumbling upon the Esperanto course on Duolingo, the best constructed languages created by yours truly L. L. Zamenhof. Outside of UChiconlangs, he likes worldbuilding, cosplaying, and playing anything made by Paradox Interactive.
Minister of Merchandise - /bɹaɪs/
AKA - b e e
Bryce Hoenigman is a second year undergraduate interested in the oldest language technologies (first writing system), the newest language technologies (LLMs/NLP/etc;), and what can be found at the intersection of the two! They found conlanging through their love of high fantasy and worldbuilding. Now they draw linguistics puns to be turned into stickers~
