Particle physics at UCD on LHCb

Particle physics studies the most fundamental entities in our universe out of which all matter is composed. To see into the heart of matter, we need a giant microscope, which is provided by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The LHC accelerates protons to almost the speed of light and then brings them into collision, recreating energies last seen a billionth of a second after the Big Bang. We work on the LHCb experiment that is a constructed about one of the LHC collision points. By carefully analysing the data we can understand the universe at its origin and investigate the innermost workings of matter itself.
