In 1996, Akhatov U.A. entered the Faculty of Law of KazNU. al-Farabi, graduated with honors in 2000 with a degree in Jurisprudence. In 2004, Akhatov U.A. defended his candidate's thesis in specialty 12.00.01 “Slavery according to Kazakh customary law”, scientific advisor, Doctor of Law, Professor Kenzhaliev Z. Zh. By the decision of the Committee for Control in the Field of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 18, 2008, he was awarded the academic title Associate Professor in the specialty "Jurisprudence".

In 2006, a textbook “Traditional Kazakh law and slavery” was published, volume 7.4 pp, approved by the Republican Educational and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This work is valuable in the training of lawyers, in particular in the study of the discipline History of State and Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Under his leadership, a large number of students and masters of law are trained annually.

From September 2002 to the present, he has been working as a teacher at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, since 2004 as a senior teacher, since 2005 as an associate professor, since 2010 as an acting professor. professor.

Akhatov U.A. 2008-2010 – winner of the state scholarship of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “For young talented scientists”, and in 2009 - the state grant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Best University Teacher - 2009”.

Currently, a scientific research is being conducted on the topic “Turkestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic: state building and legal system.”

Akhatov U.A. served as deputy dean of the Faculty of Law for educational work from 2004 to 2008. From September 1, 2008 to the present, he holds the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law for educational, methodological and educational work.

Personal interests

Kazakh customary law, like many traditional legal systems, has evolved over centuries and has been influenced by cultural, social, and historical factors. Slavery was historically practiced in various forms in different parts of the world, including Central Asia where Kazakhstan is located. However, with the abolition of slavery in the 19th century and subsequent legal reforms, slavery is now universally condemned and illegal.

In Kazakhstan, as in many other countries, the legal system has moved away from traditional customary laws towards modern legal frameworks that are based on principles of human rights, equality, and justice. The Kazakh Constitution, adopted in 1995, explicitly prohibits slavery and forced labor, aligning with international standards and norm.

While remnants of traditional customs and practices may still exist in some remote or isolated communities, the government of Kazakhstan, like other nations, enforces laws that protect human rights and prohibit any form of slavery or forced labor.

It's essential to recognize that discussing the historical context of slavery in Kazakh customary law should not overshadow the progress made towards abolishing such practices and upholding human rights in modern Kazakhstan.

The Turkestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Turkestan ASSR) was established in 1918 as part of the early Soviet efforts to reorganize the territories of Central Asia. It was formed within the context of the Russian Revolution and the subsequent civil war that followed. The primary objective of the Soviet government in creating the Turkestan ASSR was to extend its influence and control over the predominantly Muslim-inhabited regions of Central Asia.
