DAY 1 - ICE BREAKING ACTIVITIES
So that the students could get to know each other we played several ice-breaking activities:
the speed dating game
the marshmallow challange
birthday line
Later on in the day the visiting students presented their schools, town and country to the 1st year students of our school.
After that we presented the results of our work to the other project participants. These presentations were connected to the topic "If streets could talk". The results of the students´ work can be seen in the section "Student work and presentations".
After lunch we were divided into international teams to work on the main task of the LTA - non-democratic regimes (Culture of Democracy) . We were divided into 7 teams with 4-5 people in each team. Each group got a country that they were to present on.
In the afternoon students took to the streets using the app. ActionBound. They were divided into several international teams and had to complete several tasks in the old part of Příbram. The aim of this activity was to let the students find out more about Příbram and it´s streets and intersting people.
Students were supposed to create a live picture depicting a piece of art in the Holy Mountain chapel.
DAY 2 - VOLUNTEER WORK IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
Durint the LTA students carried out some volunteer work in the local community. Students were divided into international teams.
Group 1 went to a warehouse where they sorted clothes and other stuff, that had been collected for people fleeing to the Czech Republic from Ukraine.
Group 2 visited the refugee assitance center, where they learned about how this centre works, and the integrated rescue service. At the time of our visit there were only a few refugees there.
Group 3 went to the NGO ADRA, where they prepared activities and games for the children that visit the centre.
Group 4 went to the library to play games and do activities with children there.
(due to GDPR the faces and photos from group 3 and 4 are not publicly displayed)
THE MARSHMALLOW CHALLANGE
Ice-breaking activity - the task was for students to build the highest self-standing tower using 25 pieces of sphagetti, one meter of string, one meter of cellotable.
They had 20 minutes to do the task. The marshmallow had to be on top of the structure.
It was a lot of fun :)
The task enhances team work, collaboration and communication.
VISIT TO PRAGUE - THE SENATE - GUIDED TOUR WITH THE HOMELESS
The aim of our trip to Prague was to learn more about the organisation Pragulic, which is a social enterprise that helps homeless people. It was started by several University Students, which is inspiring for young people.
Homeless people get the chance to work as "atypical" tourist guides in specific parts of Prague, and they share their life story and what life is like on the streets. After the guided tour and lunch we met with a senator of the Czech parliamet. Finally we went to see the best sights in Prague.
When we arrived in Prague we split into two groups and went on an unusual guided tour of Prague with the homeless. One group first sat on the grass near the main rail way station, which is a place where many of the homeless gather. We listened to the lifestory of our guide and then we walked around the area with him. We saw where the homeless get basic health care, where they can find some type of accommodation and how they get by on the street. The other group went to see where the homeless live and learned how they get by on the street.
We spent two hours with our guides and it was very intersting and we learned something new.
Initially we wanted to visit the lower chamber of Parliament and everything was planned. Unfortunately, due to some political issues, parliament had to be in session so we had to quickly make other arrangements.
We were very grateful that senator Václav Láska was so kind to accept our large group on short notice. He gave us nearly one and a half hours of his time. We discussed young peoples participation in political life, why it is so low. What can be done for young people to become more interested and involved in public affairs.
Sightseeing in Prague - learning about its sights, history and culture.
DAY 4: VISIT TO THE COMMUNIST LABOUR CAMP VOJNA
On Saturday morning students presented their work, which you can see in the section non-democratic regimes.
After lunch project participants took part in some sport activity - they rode on scooters or walked on foot to the labour camp "Vojna Memorial Lešetice" (more information can be found here).
VOJNA was a communist labour camp, where many political prisoners were incarcerated during the one party rule. Prisoners had to work in the local uranium mines.
We had a guided tour of the facilities, learned many interesting things about the Communist non-democratic regime, it´s history and how it treated the prisoners. For some participants it was very new and interesting.
