The TWIS garden has a garden plot of carrots! Every year students have fun harvesting the carrots and washing them! Also, the organic carrots are being donated to the kids cafeteria Hachioji! The carrots can be planted in May and can be harvested on August!
The TWIS garden has a Garlic garden spot as well! The students need extra hard time and effort to grow garlic. It is because it takes almost a year from planting the garlic, to harvesting it! After growing it, we can bring it home! We can also grow a garlic with a water cultivation! We change the water every 2~3 days and leave it.
We can fry the garlic and cook it after we harvest it!
Turnip
The TWIS garden has a Turnip! The Tunrip can planted in september and can be harvested from 3 weeks to 1 month. But the care of the turnip is very hard! It is hard to distinguish the weeds that we have to take out and the turnip that we can't take out. The students have a great time planting and caring!
The one of the famous fruits, tomato can be harvested in the TWIS garden! There is a level of colors when to harvest. When its, green, its still growing and its to early to harvest. When its yellow, its still a little early to harvest. When its, completly red, its the perfect timing to harvest the tomatoes. We can plant the tomatoes on May, and harvest it on August.
The eggplant can be harvested in TWIS! The egg plant is very hard with growing it. Since it doesn't use pesticides, when the egg plant grows, there is a high chance it gets eaten by an insect and it gets rotten. We plant the seeds on May and harvest them on August.
Okra can be harvested in the TWIS garden. It can be planted in May and can be harvested in August. Same with the eggplant, there is a chance insects eats the vegetables since there aren't pesticides.
The white eggplant can be harvested in TWIS. It is not a very common plant but it is very yummy! It can be planted in May and harvested in July. This is also one of the vegetables that get targeted by the insects.
Green pepper/Bell pepper can be harvested in the TWIS garden. It can be planted in May and harvested in July. We need to care about the humidity, and the weather when growing the green pepper so it is hard growing them.
Broccoli can be harvested in the TWIS garden. We plant the seeds in August, and harvest them in November. Broccoli is especially a target from the small insects like catapiilar so we need to put the insect net with no gap, and also make a nutrironal good soil. (The soil reffers to any vegetables and plants).
Chinese cabbadge can be harvested in the TWIS garden. It can be planted in April, and harvested on August. Since it’s leaf shaped, it can easily be eaten by the catapillars and the other insects.
Sweet potatoes can be harvested from the TWIS garden! Its sweet and yummy tastes makes it popular. It can be planted in May and harvested in August. The sweet potato needs a clean and a nutritional soil to grow!
Daikon Radish can be harvested in the TWIS! It takes a little time to grow! We plant the Daikon Radish in May and can be harvested at September. The Daikon has to be planted in the right timing so that it will grow well. The students have a fun time growing it!
Taro potato can also be harvested in the TWIS garden! It's not a very common vegetable but there are many ways to cook it and enjoy it! We plant it in May, and harvest it at August!
The rice can be harvested at the TWIS garden! G5's garden unit is to grow a complete rice and make mochi. The G5 student uses 1 whole school year to make the rice. They have many steps to grow the rice. For example, they plant the seeds in a small basket, and do all of the steps throughout the year, and in the one of the steps, we plant the sprouted seed to the bigger garden plot and mud! We have a lot of fun and also learn at the same time! At the last, we make mochi with the rice!
Blueberry is a nutritonal fruit from North America! It's tasty flavor and healthiness makes it very popular! The nutrients that it has are Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and magnesium! The Blueberry in Tokyo West is different from the normal blueberries sold in the supermarket, it is much bigger than the one sold! We plant it on March and can harvest it on July!
Mustard leaf is also a nutritional vegetable from India. The nutritons that is inside the mustard leaf are, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, minerals such as Potasium and Calcium. It can be planted on early March and can be harvested at May.
