Fred Funk Butterfly Garden

A joint project of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church members and The Villages Butterfly Gardens Club members resulted in butterfly gardens on the church's property.  The church is located in Lady Lake, Florida at 231 Lake Griffin Rd.  The gardens are open to the public, however, during church services (both Saturday and Sunday mornings) quietness is requested.

Along the parking lot is the Monarch garden.  There are several varieties of milkweed in the garden along with nectar plants.  This area also attracts other butterflies.  Continue your visit to the back of the church as more gardens are there.  We have areas for the Swallowtail butterflies, a Sulphur garden, Wildflower garden and more.  Enjoy your visit by observing which butterflies are visiting and what plants they are visiting.  Plants are labeled for your convenience.  Also, look for caterpillars and eggs on their host plants.  Benches and picnic tables are available.  Try your hand at photography or identifying the butterflies.  We do have butterflies year-round, but during the winter months activity is reduced.  Best time to visit the gardens are when it is sunny.

Jeff Hanson of the University of Florida-Gainesville stated that these gardens are the largest selection of plants in Florida.

Directions:  At the corner of Hwy 441 and Hwy 466, head east onto East Lemon Street.  (If you are already on Hwy 466, continue straight and street name changes to Lemon).  Continue on until you reach Lake Griffin Road and turn left.  Drive two blocks and the church is on your right hand side.
