Hello, Neighbor!

Welcome to the Tupelo Mutual Aid Project, a grassroots member-led and organized nonprofit group focused on community enrichment and unity through mutual aid. We are based in Tupelo, Mississippi.

What is mutual aid?

Mutual aid is a simple concept. At its core, mutual aid means ‘people helping other people’, and the practice is as ancient as civilization itself. It’s hauling a couch for your neighbor or picking up the mail when your coworker is out of town. It is Community - not as a geographic identifier, but as a wholehearted desire to help and support the people around us.

Mutual aid & you

There are several ways to get involved with the Tupelo Mutual Aid Project, but the truth is: you already are. You are a part of the community we serve and as such, you are already a part of what we are building. Almost everyone has a "pod" of friends and family, people who are willing to come together and support each other in times of need. The main goal of the Tupelo Mutual Aid Project is to connect all those pods together into a larger network - a community - that cares for itself through personal connection, volunteer action, and resource donations.

Community Members

The Tupelo Mutual Aid Project is for all the members of our community. All of you. Every one. There are no other criteria to join because simply living here means you have the potential to impact and be impacted by the people around you.

Volunteers

For community members with the ability to help, there are many opportunities to do so, big and small. Here, you can see what the community needs - live and in their own words. We give you the tools. You decide how you want to make a difference.

Our Mission

Tupelo Mutual Aid Project endeavors to strengthen our community by bringing it together. While most organizations focus their charitable efforts on specific causes or groups of people, TMAP makes connections. We provide a space for our neighbors to come together, where people who want to help can find the people who need it most. By removing the barrier between us, we hope to shine a light on the immediate needs of our community.

Get involved!

If a better, stronger community sounds like something you'd like to see in Tupelo, we would be honored to have your support. This project depends on volunteers. Without people who see a need in our community and step up to meet it, this doesn't work. So, what do you say? Do you want to build something great?
