Look for TV, films and games to 6 find pieces of good artwork. Think about the different reasons which makes them good.
Already on my mind to look at:
Looking at this image with the Rule of Thirds, it is apparent that the focus points are on the top of the tower in the middle and the wall surrounding the area (which has the New Vegas sign attached to it), rather than the character approaching it. There are also two slightly taller buildings on located right on the lines, one on both sides of the tower, which really sets the tower in the central point of the image as the main focus point.
I feel like the lighting plays a major part in this image. When put into grayscale and adjusting the contrast, you can only see the main focus point: the tower in the middle of the image. Everything else is hidden in the darkness - there is nothing else to be seen except the vague outlines of the character. This further shows the importance of this tower in the game: it is the beacon in the middle of nothingness, the goal which naturally draws the player towards it.
There are clear lines in the image leading to the same direction, they are on the road and in the clouds. Everything in the image is going towards the main focus point. They also bring more focus on the character, as he is located right in the middle of the two lines, effectively making him the second focus point of the image. This is also apparent when the image is in grayscale: the character really stands out on the middle of the road as there is nothing else but the structures in front of him.
The mountainsides in the background, the spotlights around the tower and the lighting in the clouds form triangluar shapes centered on both of the focus points of the image: the tower and the character. Other points of interests, the wall, Vegas sign and the other buildings are all also located inside of the triangles - the areas outside of them are purposefully empty.
From this piece of artwork, it is apparent that the focus points are located on the planes, missile trails, explosions happening at the base of the tower and the descending soldiers. This makes it seem that the militants are actually directing their attacks right under the tower - as everything is going towards that area - instead of fighting around it.
Turning the image into grey scale makes it easy to recognise the depth within the image. You can see what is on the front: the soldiers, the structures and the vehicles closing in on the Eiffel Tower. Bigger masses - the planes and the tower in back - can also be clearly recognised thanks to the bright sunlight effect, however you can see that they are clearly further back as they are lighter colour than the stuff on the front.
The image has distinguishable triangular shapes that divide it into different pieces - the rope used by the soldier and the structures on the ground lining up with the Eiffel Tower isolate the dominant forms in the picture to the right, while the left side remains more open and empty.
There are also many distinguishable lines within the picture that all lead to the same direction: the point at the base of the Eiffel Tower. That same point is also located within one of the lines concerning the Rule of Thirds, which makes it clearly the main focus point of the image.
