T&T/Canadian -  Dr. Hedy Madeleine Fry, PC MP (born August 6, 1941) is a Trinidadian-Canadian politician and physician who is currently the longest-serving female Member of Parliament (2023), winning ten (10) consecutive elections in the constituency of Vancouver Centre including the 1993 election, when she became the first Rookie MP to defeat an incumbent Prime Minister (Kim Campbell)

T&T/Canadian - Dr. Rhonda McEwen on the 1st of July 2022 became the University of Toronto's 14th President and Vice-Chancellor in its 186-year history. Previously Dr. McEwen served as the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Vice-Principal, academic and dean with oversight of all academic programs, planning and policy, faculty, teaching and learning, and academic experience. 

T&T/Canadian - Dr. Rita M. Cox was born in T&T and is recognized as a ’Canadian Icon”. She was a Librarian by profession.  Known as a gifted storyteller, educator, activist, pioneer, and patriot. She was admired as a leader in her community. She pioneered the library’s Black Heritage and West Indian Resource Collection. Dr. Cox was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1997 and in 2000 a   Citizenship Judge.  

T&T/ Canadian Irma James from Mayaro Trinidad was the First Black female Streetcar Operator in Toronto TTC from 1983 to 2007. From driving trucks in Trinidad, studying at Humber College in Toronto, and then driving Toronto school bus. She is an important part of African Canadian & Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) History. 

T&T/Canadian Michael Morgan was born in San Fernando T&T, on July 15, 1986. She became the first Black actress to win the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2022. She was five years old when she migrated with her parents to New York USA and then relocated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In Toronto, she attended York University and later began in television. 

T&T/Canadian Joan Alexander was a T&T Cultural Pioneer, especially for Carnival (Caribana) and Parang. She was known for hosting Toronto's largest and most renowned annual Christmas event affectionately known as the “Soca Parang Lime 

T&T/Canadian Gloria Bartley was born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1934.  She migrated to Toronto, Canada in 1958.  She was the first Black woman to serve as a Toronto police officer in 1960. Bartley joined the police force months after Toronto’s first Black male police officer - Jamaican  Larry McLarty. She resigned in 1967, after 7 years of service, to raise a family. This resignation was not a voluntary choice but was mandated. Before 1972, female officers had to resign after giving birth. 

T&T/Canadian Wendy Jones is the 1st Female Captain of a Toronto Steelband Orchestra. Wendy has guided the band to 12 record wins (2024) as the best Steelband in Canada. Originally from San Juan Trinidad, she came to Canada with her very strong Christian mother. Growing up in Trinidad she was not exposed to  Carnival and Pan music. She was first introduced to Pan music in 1976 via Westview Centennial Secondary School by Earl La Pierre, Sr. of Afropan. With friends, she formed the Pan Fantasy Steel Orchestra. 

Senator Bernadette Clement, born on May 17, 1965, in Montreal, Quebec, has a diverse background with a T&T father and a Franco-Manitoban mother. She earned degrees in civil law and common law from the University of Ottawa and was called to the bar in 1991. Before her Senate appointment, she served as mayor of Cornwall, Ontario, from 2018 to 2021, making history as the first woman and first Black woman to hold that position in the city and province.

Merci Ien is a Canadian/T&T Politician who served as the Minister for women and gender equality and youth since October 26, 2021. Marci was born in Toronto to a  T&T father who migrated to Canada to study.  Previously, she was a broadcast journalist for CTV. She co-hosted the CTV daytime talk show The Social from 2017 until 2020. She was also a reporter for CTV News and a co-anchor on the CTV morning program Canada AM. Marci was the First Black Female To  Host A National Morning News Show In Canada.

Ceta Ramkhalawan-singh Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, emigrated to Canada in 1967 and studied political science and economics at the University of Toronto.. [While still an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, she was actively involved in establishing the women's studies program in 1971. 

Karen Gopee migrated to the United States from Trinidad with her parents and was the first in her family to attend college. She got a full scholarship from St. John's University to go to law school. Karen was the first Indo-Caribbean JUDGE appointed by the mayor of New York State in 2015.                                       In 2021, she then became the first Indo-Caribbean Supreme Court judge of  New York State.  Karen relaxes by playing SOCA music.
