At Trivandrum International School, students moving from Grade 8 to Grade 9 choose to follow either the ICSE or the Cambridge IGCSE path. Both are two-year courses and both are delivered within a broader education framework which includes the variety of activities that students at TRINS are used to.
The Cambridge IGCSE path involves studying a core of compulsory subjects (English Language and Mathematics) and subjects that each student chooses in addition. All students are required to study eight subjects unless the school recommends otherwise. To take the Computer Science course, a student will need to to have shown competence in programming in Grade 8. Students are encouraged to study a second language (French, Hindi or Spanish).
It is a requirement of the school that students complete the two-year course of study in each subject and write the IGCSE examination. Parents are asked to sign an undertaking to this effect.
The options blocks are as follows –
a choice must be made from Options 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Global Perspectives may be chosen as one of the 6 optional subjects or as a ninth subject (suitable for students looking for additional challenge)
The Mathematics Department will approve outstanding Math students to study Additional Mathematics; this would be a ninth subject.
You can read subject pammphlets that tell you about the course content for the IGCSE subjects, as well as how a subject supports future progress.
