Welcome to the execution steps, where we make most of our visual work! Let's start with the inspectable. It’s the image that’s meant to invite someone to inspect and interact with your trinket. After implementation, it’ll animate when hovering over it, and transition into our visual narrative once clicked.
(The instructions in the execution steps are replaced by tips! Because the only instruction is to create.)
I recommend a 1300 x 900 (300 ppi) minimum to export with a transparant background.
Keep your documentation from the previous step within view.
Illustrate the trinket three dimensionally! If you hadn't already, take a photo of your trinket in the perspective that shows its unique physical qualities (similar to the set up illustrated below). You can use this image as reference layer in your digital art programme.
Reflect on what you find interesting about it, which elements make you want to pick it up?
Have the real-life trinket next to you as you work! Pick it up if you’re stuck!
Show as much of the object as you can!
Use composition, colors or animation to highlight your favorite characteristic!
You can also create a background first! Think about the environment/context you want to place your trinket in. Is it a closet or a pile of trash, colourful or minimalistic, similar to its real-life environment or do you want to recontextualise the curiosity?
If you want, you can animate your trinket with simple 2-5 frame animation :)
Look back on step 3 and 4 for inspiration!
In order to invite someone to inspect this deck of cards, I wanted to illustrate the pile haphazardly and highlight one of the cards. I also wanted to use environmental storytelling, by placing this pile on a shelf, with a smaller scattering on the floor below. Once you hover over the pile, the card your eye is drawn to is animated to flutter to the floor.
