Limitations

► Leucism: Leucistic dogs lack pigment similarly to albino dogs, but leucism does not affect the eyes. It can cause the flesh (skin, nose, lips, tongue, gums, and paw pads) to become pink. They can have completely greyish-cream pale fur or patches/flecks. Unlike vitiligo, these patches/flecks do not grow over time.

► Vitiligo: Vitiligo appears in dogs as they age and can either grow on the nose (“focal”) or in random or symmetrical patterns across the body (“generalized”). It can cause their flesh (skin, nose, lips, tongue, gums, and paw pads) to become pink. Vitiligo stops growing within three to six moons after it first appears.

► Chimerism: Chimeric dogs have two combined embryos and therefore have patches of two sets of dog pelts (ex. A black-and-tan and a red-and-tan dog combined into one). They can have an almost merle/dappled look, covering around 50% or more of the dog or can be a small patch.

► Double Merles: Double merle dogs are the product of two merle dogs or dogs carrying the dominant merle gene. Two dominant merle genes damage the dog’s ability to create pigment. This causes them to have large white patches covering the majority of their fur, leaving only a few patches of their markings underneath visible. They can also be pure white. Their flesh (skin, nose, lips, tongue, gums, and paw pads) will become pink and their eyes will be light blue. They always have vision issues, are typically born deaf, wall-eyed, or not even have eyes.

• Blind Double Merle: A double merle dog who is also blind (counts as one ban).

• Deaf Double Merle: A double merle dog who is also deaf (counts as one ban).

► Blind: Dogs that completely lack the ability to see.

► Deaf: Dogs that completely lack the ability to hear.

► Mute: Dogs unable to speak.

► Lame: Dogs unable to walk properly due to poor bones in their back or legs. They resort to crawling or limping.

► Heterochromia: Dogs born with two different colored eyes. They can have eyes with two completely different colors, or have a spot/patch of one color on the same eye of a different color. Heterochromia is most common in dogs with merle patterning or white fur.

► Hairless: Dogs born without most if not all of their fur. Because of the island’s colder climate, the island dogs have adapted to having fur and very few carry the hairless gene. On occasion, a mutation will occur in which they do not have hair or dogs carrying the hairless gene produce hairless offspring.

► Cropped/Docked/Bobtailed: Dogs who are naturally born with bobbed or no tails or have had their tails, ears, claws, etc. cropped or removed by humans. Dogs who have been cropped by humans would have to have originated from off of the island.

► Mental Illnesses: Dogs who have a mental illness such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc. (very mild forms of these are permitted without a Ban. Due to life events, these feelings can occur in any dog, but for ongoing mental illness that affects the dog's life, a ban is required)

► Physical Illnesses: Dogs who have a physical illness such as hip dysplasia, arthritis, epilepsy, heart disease, etc.

► Purebred Dog: Dogs with only one breed of dog, including designer dogs such as Labradoodles that were bred from two breeds of dog and are recognized as their own breed. Purebred wild canids are NOT allowed.

• Cropped/Docked/Bobtailed Purebred Dog: Dogs who are commonly born with bobbed tails or had their tails/ears cropped or docked by two-legs such as the Australian Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher, and Boxer. Dogs cropped by two-legs would have to have originated from off of the island (counts as one ban).

►Hairless Purebred Dog: Dogs such as the Xoloitzcuintli and Chinese Crested Dog lack most if not all of their fur (counts as one ban).

► Canid Hybrid: Dogs who have wild canine blood. The canine species available are wolves and coyotes

• Wolf/Coyote: Dogs who are over 20% wolf or coyote.

► Conjoined: When two pups are born stuck together, literally. They can be (But not limited to) either conjoined at the head, hip, or sometimes back. These dogs have trouble living daily live with their minds working separately but body parts shared.

►Extra limbs: Sometimes dogs are born with little extra limbs, these are non-functioning of course and can get snagged on bushes. These dogs can have, but not limited to, Extra ears, legs and tails.

► Overbite/Underbite: A mutation where the jaw is either pushed out or pushed in creating a overlap in teeth. Either the top teeth overlap the bottoms or vis versa.

► Overgrown teeth: Overgrown teeth as commonly larger fangs, this makes them peak out of the lips of the dog.

►Cleft Pallet: Is when the wall blocking the nostril passage and the mouth wasn't fully developed. This means that there is a hole in the roof of the mouth in some way, some are more severe and harder to live with then others.

► Albinism: Albino dogs completely lack pigment and therefore have white/pale fur and pink flesh (skin, nose, lips, tongue, gums, and paw pads). They can only have either light blue, light violet, and rarely reddish-pink eyes. They always have vision issues and some are even blind.

►Blind Albino: An albino dog who is also blind (counts as one ban).
