Board Member Roles: The elected officers of TCGC are the President (or co-presidents), Secretary, and Treasurer who serve as members of the Executive Committee. We are currently seeking a secretary for the 25-26 year! The term of office is for one year beginning August 4, 2025. Please see the Executive Positions in Article III Duties of Officers in the TCGC By-Laws for more information.

Committees: Click HERE to help serve our gifted education community!
Membership & Communications: (Chaired by the Secretary) All who live in our tri-county region are welcomed as members with annual dues for each type of membership (district, site, individual, etc). These dues help support our programs which include grants, student leadership programs, guest speakers, and conferences.
Committee members update the contact lists and send out communications such as meeting reminders, membership outreach, invoices, event invitations, etc. to our members as well as to the tri-county region. Creating posts and managing our social media accounts is also included in this role. This committee works closely with the treasurer and secretary.
Webmaster: Communication within and across our GATE community is key and TCGC serves as a go-to resource for educators and families of gifted and talented children.
Committee members help with a variety of tasks including webpage support and updates, curating resources for the TCGC website, sending out Tri-County GATE and general GATE event information, announcements, and calendar updates.
Grants: One of our greatest joys, and the basis for much of our fundraising, is to be able to offer grants to teachers and students to further the enrichment and passions of our students.
Committee members publicize the opportunity, read/score grant applications, and meet to select and notify recipients. Members also follow up with grant recipients and solicit examples of projects to publicize, etc.
GATEway to Leadership Conference: Planning for this annual event for seventh-grade students begins in the fall and is complete when the last child leaves the conference. This is a fun and rewarding event for our planning crew, teacher facilitators, high school leaders, and especially for our 7th-grade participants.
Committee members publicize the event, plan the logistics of the event (registration, recruiting district volunteers, materials, supplies, food), set-up before and during the event, and facilitate the event on-site.
We Honor Our Own Awards: Each year we honor teachers, administrators, and community members who support our gifted and talented children and programs. Awards have gone to volunteers who “always seem to be there helping”, and to teachers who share their expertise and support their colleagues to better serve our children and their families.
Committee members update, disseminate, and manage nomination forms, publicize the awards, and facilitate recognition of recipients.
TCGC Certification and Teacher Training: Tri-County GATE Council is currently updating its educator certification process, based on national and state standards for teacher education and professional development, to best serve our gifted population of learners.
Committee members will update the existing certification program and work with the local county offices of education and tri-county area school districts to develop, host, and facilitate this program.
Best Practices Conference: One mission of TCGC is to provide informative educator professional development and family outreach to our community. Our annual conference is designed to provide this educational service. Top-notch speakers and experts from our gifted education community offer presentations that enhance best practices and clarify perceptions of this unique group of cognitively diverse learners. Conferences address social-emotional, curricular, identification, and logistical aspects of gifted and talented education.
Committee members publicize the event, plan the logistics of the event, solicit keynote and session speakers, set up before and during the event, (registration, materials, supplies, food, etc), and facilitate the event on site.
Bylaws: (as needed) Our bylaws were updated in September 2018 to represent current practices and appropriate nomenclature. Standing rules were created to distinguish bylaws from procedures. Bylaws and Standing Rules were approved on October 12, 2018.
Committee members engage in a periodic review of standing rules, suggesting and bringing to the TCGC board any modifications/updates needed.
