Tyrol Italy has some amazing mountains - hiking, skiing and sledding!
Tyrol is a historical Alpine region split between Austria (State of Tyrol) and Italy (South Tyrol and Trentino). In Italy, the region is officially known as South Tyrol (German: Südtirol; Italian: Alto Adige), an autonomous province in the northeast that serves as a cultural and linguistic bridge between Central Europe and the Mediterranean.
Watch my video of amazing sledding in Tyrol Italy! Scroll down this page for more information!
I believe we rode up the Florian Chairlift (Florianlift) and sledded down the sled run. The sled run (toboggan run) and the ski run are the same at times when you are going down the mountain. So sometimes you are sledding on the ski run. We actually went on the ski run for more of the time than we were supposed to because we missed the turn. We asked quite a few people there but no one knew where to switch paths. Where you are supposed to switch paths is not well marked! This run can be dangerous! You need to control your speed or you can go too fast - especially if you miss the turnoff to the sled run like we did! Use of the toboggan runs and ski runs is at your own risk!
Notes about how to get to the run from Kastelruth - we stayed in Kastelruth:
Take gondola to Alpe di Siusi, hike and toboggan
-Take bus to ski lifts, buy ticket on bus
-Go tobogganing using ski lift 65 (Florian) from Saltria
-Take ski lift 62 (Panorama) from Compatsch and walk to Ritsch

Here is a list with timestamps of what you see in the video:
00:00 Highlights of the sled run / toboggan run - in Alpe di Siusi
Plattkofel mountain is seen towering at the start of the sled run
00:11 Sled ride down mountain and skier speeds past
00:16 Sledding high speed on ski run through tunnel as people ski along side me
00:29 Swing set at top of sled run / toboggan / ski run
00:44 Playing Jingle Bells on the fiddle / violin in the snow on the hotel balcony patio in Kastelruth / Castelrotto Italy
*** THE ENTIRE SLED RUN ***
01:08 THE ENTIRE SLED RUN *** The entire toboggan sledding adventure - From this spot in the video to the end I show the entire run down the sled run with a POV display as I go sledding in Alpe di Sius. The ride up the lifts is shown first. We ride up the ski lift in our shoes surrounded by skiers.
01:29 The top of the run. Plattkofel mountain is seen towering at the start of the sled run.
01:32 Sled riders / toboggan riders begin the ride at the top of the ski run
01:42 Swing set at top of sled run / toboggan / ski run
01:42 Starting to sled down the toboggan run
02:18 Picking up speed sledding to the ski run - I'm using my feet to control my speed and am slaloming do the run slowly at first then faster.
02:45 This is CRAZY! Watch the skiers zoom past me! High speed skier speeds past ...
03:08 WOO-HOO! Fast sledding - letting the sled slide full speed with no breaking because there is a flat spot runout at the bottom of the hill here.
03:36 Sledding down the ski run with little town in the mountains behind me. Very fun beautiful nice ride right here but then is gets GNARLY!
03:57 GNARLY! The ski run gets steeper here - I think we were supposed to take a little different route at the town. We asked quite a few people there but no one knew. The snow got a bit icy here. Fortunately we had done quite a bit of mountain sledding and know we should control our speed. Some other folks came bombing down the slope and wiped out - Use of the toboggan runs is at your own risk!
04:04 Skiers skiing down the run seen from the sled.
04:15 Toboggan run - we figured out the sled run was in just a little bit different spot from the ski run on this section of the mountain and got on the correct run. The snow was softer here so your speed was more controlled.
04:47 Sledding down the toboggan run. My daughter is sledding in front of me as we travel at a fun fast pace!
05:18 A hiker along the path. You can also winter hike along the toboggan run.
05:23 Family fun - a family resting along the side of the toboggan run.
05:35 Getting down towards the bottom of the run. The run flattens our here
05:51 Skiers ski by on the lower section of the run. The ski run and the sled run are both on the same run now.
05:57 Here is my little sled / little toboggan
06:15 High speed sled ride going towards bottom of the run. Sledding high speed on ski run through tunnel as people ski along side me!
06:47 Jingle Bells on the fiddle / Jingle Bells on the violin - Merry Christmas!
