Future Plans

If this project is successful, we hope to implement it in other intersections and streets around Boston. As of 2014, only about 2% of Bostonians commuted to work by bike, while 39% of Bostonians drove alone. One of the goals of the Go Boston 2030 project is to increase the number of bikers by fourfold and decrease the number of commuters who drive alone by 50%. By removing the parallel parking spaces and replacing them with bike lanes, we hope to work towards this goal by making Boston a more bike-friendly city. We also want to construct more buffers on streets that already have painted bike lanes. In doing this, we hope to make biking more accessible to those (especially families with young children) who may feel unsafe riding on bike lanes on busy streets.
