Multilingual High School students across multiple high schools have the opportunity to take dual credit courses in translation and linguistics with the University of Hawai'i, Hilo. After two years students earn 12 free college credits and 4 high school credits. Students learn the basics of linguistics to develop a metacognitive understanding of their languages, engage in regular translation work, learn from guest speakers, take field trips to UH Hilo and develop greater proficiency and fluency in all their languages. We want all students to develop confidence in their language and translation skills, have access to advanced learning opportunities that leverage the languages they speak, and help them develop confidence in navigating the college system. The course sequence is as follows:
Year 1 LING102 + LING133
Year 2 LING233 + LING321 (5.0 credit scale)
