I undertook this project to fill a gap in race results currently available online. Primary source was USAC yearbooks in the archives of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa. Race reports in National Speed Sport News filled in missing information and resolved discrepancies.
Two websites currently carry complete results of USAC stock car races from 1971 through 1984, the final season. They also have incomplete results for the earlier seasons covered here. The sites are www.ultimateracinghistory.com and www.thethirdturn.com. The first has not been updated since 2008 and carries no contact information. The second was active in 2023, although last edited in 2019. The Third Turn’s contact page allows email communication only; I haven’t tried it.
The 1972 race at Knoxville, IA. Lots of Mopar Hemi stock cars featured in dirt track action. Looks like the video is comprised of hot lapping, a trophy dash, and then part of the main event. Among the Mopar USAC drivers shown are Butch Hartman (#75), Don White (#9), Paul Feldner (#7), Bay Darnell (#12), Sal Tovella (#8), Verlin Eaker (#99) and Lem Blankenship (#6) who finished 2nd.
