We are a new and dynamic arts organisation based in Whitechapel, headed by two experienced directors with many years’ experience working in Tower Hamlets, who are passionate about young people and their ability to thrive through the arts.
Our programmes are open to young people living and working in Tower Hamlets and surrounding boroughs, aged 11-19 and for graduates up to 25.
For young people that attend our programmes, the arts are an important part of their wellbeing, social development, career aspirations and learning opportunities, enabling them to flourish through relationships with other like-minded young people, with tutors and with art college ambassadors and alumni.
From our inspirational base at the Brady Arts and Community Centre, we have established a safe creative hub allowing for young people to meet and engage in a wide range of art forms and activities to broaden their creative skills and abilities towards achieving positive outcomes whether they be personal or educational.
We have an all-year programme that includes our term time Explore workshops, half term holiday projects and the Summer Art and Design Academy in August.
The Alexander McQueen relationship with A Team Arts Education, has been cemented through one of the educational out-reach programmes of workshops which Sarah Burton has been running with in-house design team members throughout the pandemic. While other Alexander McQueen educational schemes connect with colleges and university students nationally, the association with A Team Arts Education forges a practical link with younger people locally through its dynamic and free art-led school holiday and Saturday programmes. “At a time when schools and local authorities are reducing their arts budgets and provision, we still need the arts to help bring about a positive recovery and come together after the Covid-19 pandemic. Working with Alexander McQueen will provide inspiration, hope and opportunities to an area that has established links to the fashion and textiles industries that are now hidden through layers of history and a changing urban landscape. The collaboration will help the arts to flourish in a positive way for young people and the wider community of East London.” – Sarbjit Natt, Director, A Team Arts Education.
