You will have 1 1/2 hours to build a map of your community using the prompts below. We will then ask for volunteers to discuss their maps and receive input from workshop participants. For this activity we will use a special version of My Maps that has additional layers so that everyone can collaborate on the same map to make the workshop logistics simpler. You will then be able to download your layers and create your own, stand alone map, for your community.
You will need a laptop or desktop computer for this activity. If you do not have access to a computer, please let the workshop presenters know so that we can work with you individually using the My Maps Mobile app. The instructions below are for the version of My Maps that requires a computer.
You will also need a Google Account to work on the map.
We ask that you follow these guidelines:
Please be respectful of your fellow participants and do not delete or edit anything that is not your own.
Please do not put private data on this map such as home addresses, since this is a public map and we want to take precautions to maintain safety.
Place all of your work in your own layers - make sure you are working in your layer before you start adding materials (you will see a blue side bar on the active layer).
Please provide acknowledgements and links to all data sources.
Use the prompts and the instructions in the slides below to build your layers.
