Taiwan Cycling Route No. 1 is a cycling route around the island of Taiwan. It is a popular touristic activity. We will roughly follow this route from Hualien to Zuoying, traveling southward along the East coast either by bike or by train. More specifically, we will stop at Ruisui, Chishang, Jinlun, Fangliao and Zuoying, as indicated in the map below. You can see the tentative talk venues in each of those towns in Practical information.
To go from Taipei to Hualien on Sunday (Day 0), the best option is to take a local train; see Taiwan Railway Corporation,Ltd.. This train journey takes around 3 hours, so you should be able to make it to Hualien on time to check-in at the hotel by Sunday evening.
To go from Zuoying back to Taipei, the best option is to take a high speed train; see Taiwan High Speed Rail. This train journey takes around 2 hours, so you would have enough time to get back to Taipei on the evening of Day 5 (Friday evening). But if you prefer, we can also book an extra night of accommodation for you in Zuoying.
