If you only have a day in Cienfuegos and don't like the idea of long drives to and from Trinidad, there are plenty of must see, beautiful and scenic places within Cienfuegos for you to enjoy. If you are staying in a Casa Particular or on a cruise stop with multiple days in Cienfuegos we recommend having a full day in Trinidad and it's neighbor Valle de Los Ingenios (Valley of he Sugar Mills). We offer 7 hours and 9 hours tours. Just like Cienfuegos there is a long list of places to see in and around Trinidad. We have curated the best route for you to see as much as possible with the time available on our tours. On a 7 hours tour we will start off with a couple of stops in Valle de Los Ingenios then spend the rest of our time in and around Trinidad City. Near the Pepito Tey sugar mill just 25 minutes drive / 17 km east of Cienfuegos, is one of Cuba´s biggest gardens Jardín Botánico de Cienfuegos. The Botanical Garden houses 2000 species of plants, including 23 types of mamboo, 65 types of fig, and 250 different palms (the greatest variety in one place anywhere in the world). If you have a love for plants and flowers or a bird watcher this is a good tour to consider. We will tour the garden with a certified English speaking botanist who will discuss the various plants and gardens and spot birds for approximately 45 minutes around the garden. We will spend 2-3 hours minimum going to/from Jardín Botánico de Cienfuegos incluing driving and touring . El Nicho Waterfalls is the most beautiful natural area in Cuba. There is a spectacular walking loop past dozens of waterfalls and natural pools including one with a large pool for swimming. The drive up to El Nicho can be challenging with sharp curves with beautiful vistas. It takes about 90 minutes to drive up to El Nicho from Cienfuegos due to road condition. This tour is best taken as early in the morning as possible. We will have a guided walk through the trail. You will see beautiful cascading pools, amazing views and natural pools. After our El Nicho visit we can have lunch at a Paladar and spend the rest of our 7 or 9 hours on our Cienfuegos City and Punta Gorda area portion of the tours. Come enjoy the Dolphin experience in Cienfuegos. There is a highly rated interactive show at 10 AM and 2 PM each day. You can also participate to swim with the Dolphins at an excellent price (additional 50 CUC fee). This is said to be one of the best and lowest cost dolphin experience in the Caribbean. Delfinario de Cienfuegos is open every day from 9:30 am to 4 pm, except on Wednesday. The Jagua Castle is a fortress was erected by King Philip V of Spain in 1742 to protect the bay from pirates who prowled the Caribbean coast in those days. Build entirely with solid limestones with several floors, a well, a watch tower and a moat. It also has a drawbridge in perfect condition. The castle is very well preserved. It has a beautiful views of the entrance to the bay. Our tour includes a drive down to the mouth of the bay passing through the beautiful Playa de Luna beach. At a local boat landing we will take a local ferry or private boat over to the Castle. The boat ride is an experience by itself. After 2-3 hours tour of the castle, we can have lunch at a Paladar and spend the rest of our 7 or 9 hours touring Cienfuegos City Center and Cienfuegos' Punta Gorda area. Laguna Guanaroca is a mangrove-saline lake southeast of Cienfuegos, 12 km / 20 minutes away from the city. It´s second only to Las Salinas on the Zapata peninsula as a third magnet and it´s the province´s only natural protected area. This is a bird and nature lovers paradise. Trails lead to viewing platform where flamingos, pelicans and tocororos (trogons, Cuban´s national bird) are regular visitors. Plant life includes pear, lemon and avocado trees, as well as the guira, the fruit used to make maracas. If you are a nature and bird lover this tour option is good to consider. The best time to visit is as early as possible in the morning. There is a limited number of tickets available for the boat ride around the lagoon. After our tour to Laguna Guanaroca we can stop by the beautiful Playa Rancho Luna beach close by then loop back to do the Cienfuegos' Punta Gorda area and Cienfuegos City Center portion of the tours. This tour is for cruise passengers with multiple day port stop in Cienfuegos and no cruise stop in Havana. It is an approximate 3 hour each way drive to and from Havana. We recommend leaving the port as early as possible. Note that this can be a very stressful tour due to the travel distance. We will have less than 6 hours touring time considering the 2 meal breaks we will need to take. You can count on a very informative tour with good comfort considering the that we only use high quality vehicle with air conditioning licensed for tourists.
