ACTOR INFORMATION
ACTOR INFORMATION
Live theatre is an amazing craft. It not only stimulates creativity, imagination and social engagement, but there is overwhelming research that shows that participating and/or viewing live theatre promotes learning across various subject matters. Like any craft, it is not only based on a discipline of learning specific skills but also the discipline of how to work. Strong work habits are paramount to the foundation of art, and the TMS Drama Club stresses the commitment to study, accountability and attendance.
PARENTS & STUDENTS
!!! YES - there is a lot of information to read.
Working with 30+ students and pulling together a live performance is a huge undertaking.
→ PLEASE read ALL information Carefully ←
All students who want to be actors in a TMS Drama Club Production must audition. Not everyone may be cast. Participation in the TMS Drama Club is a privilege and requires a dedicated commitment. Please read all the information carefully so you know what will be expected of you.
Rehearsal & Performances Date Rehearsals begin Tuesday January 13th from 1-4pm (Early Dismissal Day). First rehearsal/meeting is mandatory for ALL actors & ALL crew. Rehearsal are generally scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 3-5:30pm BUT you will only be called to THREE rehearsals a week (Larger rolls may be asked to do to do more than three rehearsals some weeks). The last three weeks of rehearsal will be FOUR days a week, and rehearsal are from 3-6pm. The weekly rehearsal schedule will be posted on Sunday afternoons detailing who will be called and what days and times you are required to be there. We understand that some students have other clubs, sports and commitments. We work very hard to be as flexible as possible as long as the conflicts do not take away from the ability to rehearse and prepare for a performance. If students do have to miss an occasional rehearsal, they are expected to talk with the director, choreographer, musical director and/or other students to learn the material they missed and catch up on their own time. If you have a leading, role we expect that our rehearsals are a priority.
Conflicts - ALL conflicts - must be cleared ahead of time.
The time to list your conflicts is NOW. State them clearly on your audition form. Please check your calendar for conflicts (family trips/vacations, afterschool classes, religious classes, family events, theatre shows, parties, doctors visits, etc.) BEFORE auditioning!
All conflicts MUST BE LISTED on your AUDITION APPLICATION FORM. ANY conflicts not cleared and listed on your form, except for illness, may not be honored and may lead to expulsion from the production. ALSO NO CONFLICTS WILL BE ALLOWED after February 27th without special permission. You will not be allowed to continue with the production if you have a schedule conflict that has not been pre-approved after February 27th.
Not every student will have rehearsal every day, and some days students will be called for only part of the rehearsal. Once a child is done with their call for the day, they may go home. If you aren’t able to pick up your student, they may stay at rehearsal, and they may quietly do homework in the Homework Room.
EXCUSED ABSENCES/CONFLICTS
Students are allowed 3 absences from rehearsal prior to February 27th,. No absences will be permitted from that point on. Students who have more than 3 absences are subject to being dismissed from the production.
ILLNESS
On a day that you are out of school due to illness, you may not attend rehearsal or a performance. If you go home early from school ill, a parent must contact the producer. The school DOES NOT notify us. Please DO NOT have a fellow student tell us - a parent must notify us). Absences DUE TO ILLNESS are considered excused and are not part of your 3 planned absences.
PICK UP
All students must be picked up from rehearsals on time. Parents are asked to arrive at 5:25 for a 5:30 prompt pick up. For safty concerns, students should wait inside the lobby until their ride arrives.
IF YOU CAN’T ARRIVE EXACTLY ON TIME, PLEASE ARRANGE FOR ANOTHER PARENT TO PICK YOUR CHILD UP.
COSTUMES & MAKEUP
Actors are always responsible for providing appropriate footwear and undergarments and some makeup that, due to health reasons, certain makeup can not be shared.
CELL PHONES
Absolutely NO Cell Phone use during rehearsals and performances (except for when recording music during rehearsals) - ALL Cell Phones and/or electronics, Apple watches, etc. will be turned off and put in the Cell Phone Lock Box at the beginning of rehearsal. No exceptions. If you need to check your phone, you may ask to see it during a break. After the break, it must be returned to the box. You may use your laptop for homework only. No playing games or watching programs, etc. during rehearsal. If you are not being used during a rehearsal, students should be practicing lines, blocking or dance steps with other cast members. If a student is caught using electronics during a rehearsal or performance, it will be confiscated and will be grounds for dismissal from the production.
REHEARSAL "HOMEWORK"
Practicing outside of rehearsal is an important part of being in a production. Students will have lines, music, blocking and choreography to practice at home. Recordings for download will be available to assist them in learning their music. Parents, like all school work, PLEASE make sure they are practicing the music, lines, blocking and dancing they have learned in rehearsals at home.
ACADEMIC AND BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS.
All students involved are subject to meeting all academic and behavioral requirements to be eligible as active Drama Club Members. A list of rules about where students can and can not go within the school will be given out to the parents & students.
