The Strategies class is a month long, 16 hour series that walks students through every stage of the job search process, including:
assessing your skills,
targeting a job,
developing your personal brand,
writing a cover letter & resume,
building a network,
utilizing Linked In, Indeed, JobScan, and Big Interview,
preparing for and nailing an interview, and
salary negotiation skills.
This course is offered in person and online, and will soon be offered asynchronously.
The IT cohorts use a flipped classroom approach to guide IT students through the process of targeting multiple resumes and cover letters, developing a LinkedIn profile, & creating STAR story responses to hand-selected interview questions in preparation for competitive IT employment opportunities. Students are required to polish materials until they receive a passing score on a set of standard rubrics and will meet with coaches one-on-one every week for a regularly scheduled appointment for four weeks in a row.

Graded - Mock Interview in BigInterview (due week 4)

IT Cohorts (M/W or T/Th from 4 - 6 pm DIL only)
Students enrolled in the IT cohort are expected to successfully complete our course, which prepares them for a small set of positions, pre-determined by the Office of Experiential Learning and Apprenticeship programs, and focuses on a flipped classroom approach. In order to pass, students need to complete a resume draft and revision, a cover letter, a LinkedIn profile, and a mock interview. Rubric scoring is used to determine if materials are passing or need continued revision.
