Even the most sophisticated of humans, the ones who lead our countries, the CEOs of corporations, and old & new money billionaires, still have one thing in common with every other human: primal instincts. Emotions. Prejudices. In dire situations, the sophisticated will peel off their mask of manners and become one of primal nature, no matter who it may negatively affect. In God of Carnage, we see two upper-middle-class couples trying to come to a cordial agreement about how to deal with an altercation between their two sons – but cordiality turns into hostility, and the hidden instincts of each character come to light. In this production of God of Carnage, sophistication turned cold, deadly, and primal will be the main highlighted theme; more than ever the people in this world need to understand that the people who rule our societies, or the people we trust, aren’t Gods—instead, they are ruled by a God, one of carnage, and instincts will always turn one to selfishness. We are all, inherently, the same, and the wealthiest to the poorest of people will all turn to natural instincts when needed—so we shouldn’t hold anyone to a pedestal, and we should always remember to think critically about the ones we choose to trust.
