Editing Buttons/Text

Here are a couple videos I made for frequent questions on how to edit buttons and texts. (method is the same regardless of the theme)

More detail about the text settings: https://youtu.be/bjhPzgu6hWA

If you have trouble with notification counters not working, first check if you gave Total Launcher all the necessary permissions to view notifications in your device's system settings and in Total Launcher's settings. Other than that, be sure the text is set to "Notifications: %02d" with the text and button mapped directly to the actual application the counter numbers are desired to show notifications for. *Updated numbers on the counter text may not show until exiting edit mode.

Missing apps: If clicking a button takes you to the Play Store and says it's missing, that means it was removed from the Play Store. In that case, usually you can just edit it to any other app you want or one of the same suggested function such as 'File Explorer'. In other cases, it may be that an installed shortcut is missing like a toggle. In that case, you can install it with this previously free app from the developer of Total Launcher: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e_mfiBwIxqtqoCNj71UGQsOmrD4QtJL0/view?usp=sharing or you can get the new paid version from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.powershortcuts

Toggles: I originally made the themes with the previous 'More Shortcuts' app from the Total Launcher developer, but he unpublished it and made the Power Shortcuts app to replace it, but it's a paid app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.powershortcuts As the More Shortcuts app is no longer able to be linked to for new users, I redid the toggles with Power Shortcuts. If you want to save the money and edit the toggles for the same effects in a free way, here is the 'More Shortcuts' app dropped into my drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e_mfiBwIxqtqoCNj71UGQsOmrD4QtJL0/view?usp=sharing Install that, then edit the toggles for the More Shortcuts option when you scroll down on the first action menu.

*One more tip for precise editing: Connect a mouse to your phone. It's much easier and more control.

Highlight Tool Directions:

*Not necessary, but I recommend connecting a mouse to your phone for this for more precise control. Also make a backup first if you've already made edits you want to keep so you'll have a restore point in case you make a mistake.

In edit/unlocked mode, you will see a yellow icon in the top left of the screen. Tap that and you will see thin white lines that show the layout bounds for all objects. You can use this tool for many things. To highlight something is the same as on a computer where you start at one corner of whatever group you want to highlight and drag it until everything you wanted is highlighted. If something extra you didn't want is also highlighted, just tap it to deselect it or try again with the highlight tool more precisely.

Once you have things highlighted, you can:

  • Group them into 1 object by tapping the 2-box icon third from the right on the bottom. Then you can give everything the same launch action and sound.

  • Move the highlighted group into a different position by holding on the middle and dragging to where you want. This keeps the size and spacing of the group.

  • Resize it all. Grab the bottom left or right corner and diagonally drag it until you reach the desired size, then release. * This is particularly helpful for the landscape mode on devices with long screens. Then you will want to resize to your screen's width, for example 1440 pixels or until it fits without scrolling at all.

To resize the windows, in edit mode, long press an empty area of the window then grab a corner on the bottom left or right to diagonally resize it up into position.

Adding Resources:

You can add your own images (including .gif), audio files, and even fonts.

Put any of those resources on your device in their own folder or the root of storage. In Total Launcher, open the 'Launcher options' -> 'Resources' your choice of resource -> "+" in the bottom right corner/ or the folder with the '+' mark in the top right corner to open file navigation to your resources. This method of adding resources can also be done when you open the gear icon when editing a button/image and choosing the resource such as image where you will have the same screen with the "+" or +folder options.
