At its core reproductive justice is the belief that all people have the right to bodily autonomy, in terms of the right to have children, to not have children, and to raise children in a safe and healthy environment. Although topics of reproductive justice and care often center abortion access and rights, topics span far beyond abortion rights. Reproductive care includes access to birth control, family planning resources, equity within healthcare, and much more.
Marquette's Medical Clinic, located on campus, provides medical services to the university community, in support of the Catholic Jesuit tradition of cura personalis, or care for the whole person. Services that students can access have a wide range, from vaccines, to wellness checkups, to much more. Students can usually get medical needs met right on campus. Unless seeking reproductive services. At Catholic schools reproductive care typically starts and ends at STD and pregnancy testing with no options for contraceptives, birth control, or abortion referrals. This leaves students with a significant gap in care and without reproductive supports.
