About the Artist

Graham graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of art in 1988 with an honours degree in painting. He then completed post graduate degrees in Community Education and Mental Health. This enabled him to combine teaching skills, artistic skills and a knowledge of mental health issues to work, for many years, in community based art projects and mental health arts programmes across the UK.

Graham has also developed a career as a painter. When time has allowed he has exhibited in a number of major Scottish Galleries. His approach to painting has always interested collectors and those who enjoy painting. Subsequently Graham’s paintings have found their way into many private collections. He now works full-time as a painter in his studio in Broughty Ferry with his focus now solely in developing his own artistic vision.

“As a painter I am looking for something unique to happen within my paintings through a commitment to the work in progress and through the physical act of painting.  Working in oils the paintings take several months to complete as the process requires layering paint on top of paint. Because of this I work on several canvases at the same time allowing them to evolve through the painting process.  My paintings originate in reality, however, during the act of painting I am waiting for the moment the painting releases itself from that reality. Only once this is achieved can I focus entirely on the canvas before me. It is at this point that the painting truly begins.  My objective is to produce paintings which are unique, stand up for themselves and exist, in their own right, as paintings."
