Middle school students are faced with navigating their changing minds and bodies in addition to added responsibility at home and school. Guidance can help students through this confusing time and provide some hope that they can succeed. Polynesian Tiki sculptures were constructed for their communities to look towards for guidance. They were spiritual guides and protectors. Introducing sixth grade students to Tiki art is an opportunity for them to create their own guide as they begin their middle school journey. Naming and describing how their projects will guide them can assist students in reflecting on their needs and feelings. Students will be given the autonomy to create a guide for their personal needs.
