There are currently three active Thompson Bike Bus Routes. More on details on each route here.
Weekly on Fridays, morning commute to Thompson only. We may coordinate additional Bike Bus rides. For example: to celebrate National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Days https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/
Thompson students with designated grownups, plus volunteers who are interested in helping out as member of the Bike Bus Team. Every child must be accompanied by at least one grownup(s) they know, please, to follow group-riding safety protocol.
Once each Bike Bus is more established, the organizers will reassess, with the goal that students who can group-ride safely can join on their own. If you have a child who is already a strong cyclist and wants to join the Bike Bus, please let them know that they must stay with the group and follow group riding protocol. They can help model safe riding habits to other children on the ride who are still learning! Typically, the back of any group bike ride travels at a more consistent, slightly faster pace, so encourage them to stay toward the end of the line.
Bicycle(s) in good mechanical condition to ride, and helmet(s). Please have a plan for locking up or collecting your child(ren)’s bicycle(s) once they arrive at school.
Please also review our Bike Bus Safety Protocol prior to joining an active bike bus.
Each bike bus route is managed by a Zone Organizer. Each ZO will announce to the group of cancellations due to extreme weather. Assume the ride is ‘on’ if there are no updates.
Please review our Bike Bus Safety Protocol then Register to ride. Thank you!
