A bike bus, also known as a bike train, or a cycle train/cycle bus is a group of people who cycle together on a set route following a set timetable other than for sporting purposes.
Route(s) and starting point(s) are determined ahead of the ride. Depending on the route, we aim for a starting time that will get everybody to school on time.
A set route means that interested riders can join along the way. There are group riding protocols to keep us safe.
Many schools in the area began running them in the past few years, in places with higher traffic density. Here are some active Bike Buses in the Greater Boston area. Plus: a couple of articles from the Boston Globe:

A Cool Way to Get Kids to School
Outside of Greater Boston, here’s a piece about Bike Buses around the country. And it’s a global movement!
They're SO fun. Also, safety in numbers! More visibility with more bicycles, safer in traffic. A safer ride to school will encourage more people to join!
