Gained experience building a custom C++ game engine by creating the core engine loop and the collision system, which allowed all disciplines on the team to smoothly implement their vision for the gameplay systems.
Learned the importance of proper documentation and providing a simple interface for other programmers to use when developing a complex system. My recipe card system had many moving parts within the code base, so I created simple interface functions and well-detailed comments to assist my peers.
Learned the importance of code reviews and how they assist in producing professional-level code. Our team held weekly code reviews which provided an opportunity to critique our code and led to an overall increase in development speed.
Learned to research online and ask technical questions to professors when I ran into issues developing the engine and game, which saved debugging time and increased the quality of the final product.
