PhD student, Joon Soo Park, won the 1st place in the CEE Graduate Student Research Conference. Congratulations!

April 12, 2023,  Student success!

Josephine Day, a high school student who worked in my lab in the Summer 2021, Summer 2022, and Fall 2022 won 1st place at the State Science Fair and achieved the NASA Earth Systems Special Award. She will compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair in May. Congratulations!

January 12, 2023Emily Chen presented at TRB 2023

Emily Chen (Baton Rouge Magnet High School student) presented "Effect of Fungal Mycelium on the Compressive Strength of Soils" at the TRB 102nd Annual Meeting AKG 90 Committee Meeting in Washington DC. She did really well presenting and answering questions!

Josephine Day and Addison Schempf presented their research in the HSSR poster competition. Josephine and Addison did research this summer in my lab working closely with PhD students Joon Soo Park, Hussein Alqrinawi, and myself.

March 14, 2022, Outreach Activity - LSU ENGage!

My research group (Joon, Hussein, and I) participated in the ENGage event. This event is open to 6th-8th grade classes. Students toured research labs at LSU College of Engineering and participated in hands-on demonstrations led by professors and undergraduate students

My research group participated in the workshop on DAS offered by the NHERI@UTexas. Got to see many interesting sensors and equipment.

September 11-13, 2021,  GEER Hurricane Ida Reconnaissance

Drs. Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos, Navid Jafari, and I visited the great New Orleans area to assess the geotechnical damages caused by Hurricane Ida, which is sponsored by GEER (Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance) and NSF.

My student Joon and I worked with Emily Chen (7 grade) on performing several consolidation tests on sand and clay samples. Had a lot of fun of teaching future young engineer! Geaux Tigers!

Mr. Mike Juneau from Premier Geotech and Testing gave a talk to my CE 4300 class. His talk focused on geology of Louisiana, soil exploration, in-situ testing, and lab tests. Students loved his talk! Thank you for educating us, Mike! All the best to you and Premier Geotech and Testing!

First LaDIA Fellows Retreat. Got to see several Louisiana coastal management and restoration projects, such as IHNC lake borgne surge barrier, 17th St. pump station, Davis pond freshwater diversion (includes an air-boat trip), and Bonnet Carre Spillway. Talked to lots of colleagues and stakeholders. Thanks to Louisiana Sea Grant.
