Reflection

As with any ministry, flexiblity is key. Your students and volutneers will likely shift and change; their needs may change as well. Be ready to adapt to meet the needs of the team God has surrounded you with. 

 Immediately following the Launch, your ministry team should meet, even briefly, to discuss: 

1. • How did it go?

   • What went well

   • What could we improve upon? 

   • What would we recommend for future launches? 

   • What did we learn about our students that we should consider this semester? 

   • Pray for the names of your students on your registration list 

Have periodic reflections, at least once a term, with the whole volunteer team.  

• Solicit feedback from volunteers on their perspective and needs 

• Consider getting feedback from a few students to share with the group

• Review what changes need to be made for your group

• Pray together for each other and the ministry 

Refuge staff is also happy to be a source of brainstorming or feedback. Feel free to invite us to your site if you would like such feedback or discussion. 

Consider how you can integrate students from the ESL class into your church. Consider:

• Interest in an ESL or multilingual Bible study 

• Inviting students to church events, like picnics or holiday events 

• Inviting students to church or Sunday school events 

• If enough interest, consider an ESL Sunday school that helps learners participate in the worship service by reviewing songs and keywords from the forthcoming sermon

• Consider how you might care for students by throwing baby showers, inviting students to your home, or supporting them in practical needs. See if you can match their needs to the wider church body if possible to involve more church members in the ministry. 

• Periodically, consider observing another ESL site and encourage your teachers to as well. We learn a lot by seeing how other sites have solved similar problems and can gain fresh new ideas to apply to our own site.
