Enhancing the presence of the faculty and the program
Throughout the project, we had interactions and connections by collaborating with youth organizations as well as university organizations. Through those touch points, we had a chance to represent not only the BAHS program but also Humanities faculty. Moreover, through those touchpoints, there are further future possibilities to create opportunities for the BAHS program students. One of the significant touch points would be meeting with staff from the CfDS program (Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Fisipol UGM). Those with touch points, there are doors of opportunities that can benefit us in the future.
Understanding the cultures and religious practises from the point of view of the locals
Since we collaborated with the local youth organization, we had a full chance to learn about Indonesian culture as well as religious practices. We learned how deeply intertwined religion is with everyday activities, observing firsthand the practice of daily prayers, participation in Islamic festivals, and the communal spirit during religious events. Additionally, the youth organization guided us through various cultural customs, including traditional dance, music, and culinary practices.
3. Learned about the university life in Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta is regarded as the education city where the students all over the country come to pursue their undergraduate degree. We had workshops in the universities including the most prestigious in the country and interacted with students through collaboration. From this, we learned how they think about social issues and their future plans to be a part of the solution. Moreover, we learned about their university life which is integrated with their culture. For example, students from UIN SUN are more traditional in their clothing whereas UGM students have a free style in their clothing as UGM is a public university with international students.
